Jainy Maria

Jainy Maria

“I like to see the color of every feather of the bird and see the splendor of its plumage on the screen” This relentless desire drives Dr. Jainy Maria to all corners of the Indian subcontinent, and across many foreign lands to photograph the birdlife of this planet. Jainy, who has a doctorate in Chemistry, took to bird watching about fourteen years ago and very soon to serious bird photography. When it became her life’s guiding passion, she resigned her job from Infosys Banglore and turned to full time bird photography. She travels most of the time, it could be to any destination in the country, especially the Northeast regions which she loves for its avian wealth or to exotic bird rich places like Papua New Guinea in search of the Birds of Paradise or the Snowy Owl in Alaska! Less than fourteen years of serious bird photography and she has achieved something no bird photographer has in the country: only a handful of bird species now remain to be photographed out of the total 1256 or so in the country! Needless to say, her lens catches other forms of life too, she has photographed more than 50 species of Indian mammals too. Her photographs have been published in several national and international magazines, scientific journals and bird books of great repute. She presently lives in Banglaore, but hails from a village close to the famous Dr.Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, Thattekad in Keral
